I went this morning to try out this place with my wife and 1 year old son. From the outside the place looks closed being that it is so dark on the inside. First impression was that the place is quiet, but too quiet. Quiet can be a good thing, in this case it is not. There is no soft music playing in the background despite the sound system and the acoustics of the room make it so that you can hear others conversations as if they're sitting WITH you. As mentioned in the previous review, there is no wait staff. You order at the bar (that's obviously what this place was before and it looks like they didn't redecorate). There is a sign at the bar that says "ring bell to order",hmmm. The woman that took our order was nice enough. When I asked her about some soft music, she said it was always quiet and it was fine. I guess she wasn't concerned that I was requesting it. My wife ordered a simple egg and cheese sandwich on sourdough. I ordered stuffed french toast with a blueberry topping. We also had a blueberry muffin that was better than average. The food was bland. I was disappointed because it had just been told to us by a friend, that the cafe made their own bread and supplied their own milk from a local family farm. The French toast had little flavor and the topping (that is was swamped in) was probably from a sysco can. The "sourdough" bread seemed like just normal white bread. My wife's breakfast sandwich was more of the same with no flavor. The portion sizes were large and that probably explains the prices. Not expensive but not cheap. Here would be my suggestions. 1. Redecorate. Get some more light in there and get rid of the bar atmosphere. If it's a bakery/ cafe, why did I think I needed a bourbon? And for Pete's sake, turn on some quiet music. Keep it local, soft bluegrass or country. 2. Put some flavor (and care) in the cooking. Sourdough should taste a bit like sourdough. Use a local cheese instead of boring american cheese slices in the sandwich. Local Cheddar perhaps? And remember, even scrambled eggs can taste good. A touch of vanilla in the French toast, perhaps? 3. Get at least 1 server that can help with getting customers their food, utensils and clearing/ cleaning the tables. This place should be killing it. Good location, locally sourced and a community that would love a tasty breakfast spot. I hope it will improve because I'd love to support it.

I only have one major complaint. I was there about 7:15 one Saturday morning. The stuffed french toast was not bad, but when I got up to dump my plate and leave, the garbage was almost to the point of overflowing. Clearly, they hadn't changed out the garbage from the night before, so the food and other trash in the garbage can had been sitting there at least overnight. That's nasty. Otherwise, I echo what other people have said- they need better lighting and more comfortable seating. The milk is delicious, though.

I am from out of town. Just when I thought there was no decent place to eat breakfast in 50 square miles, I found this curious place. The interior design is pleasant and spotless. I ordered the breakfast burrito with home fries and chorizo and was very pleased. My wife had bacon and eggs that came with home fries and a thick slice of toast. My son had a breakfast burrito with bacon, ham and home fries. All portions were very generous and the quality of food was high. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

My egg sandwich was good. Nice homemade bread. Eggs properly cooked. Sysco cinnamon roll (or Walmart?) Is unforgivable in place billed as bakery. Seriously. As far as I'm concerned, this is a one time place. And I won't even start up on the dessicated burnt hash browns or lack of service....we would be here all day...

Food: 3 stars Service: 0 stars I won't go into much detail because I'd rather focus my time on writing good reviews for good companies. I had to go to Bowling Green for a meeting this morning and wanted to grab breakfast beforehand. I happened to be parked in front of this place unknowingly while I was on yelp trying to find a locally owned breakfast diner... it didn't even look open as the blinds were shut and the open sign was not lit but the hours said they were open. I walk in and the only girl there did not acknowledge me -- this is the first warning that my water glass is not going to be kept filled, which once again is the most I will expect of a server. I had to say good morning, still she was lifeless. I asked if they were open because I was not felt welcome. I had a seat and sat for a number of minutes before she finally came to my table (I was the only other body in the place and the table was right up front) and asked if I wanted some breakfast. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. The sandwich came and I ate it. I had to ask for my water to be refilled. I asked how much I owed and was about to had her money and she abruptly left the table to take the order of a group of guys. Service, as I mentioned was not at all good. The sandwich on the other hand was excellent. The toast was nice, thick, and toasted properly. Eggs, cheese, and bacon were perfect. I hope the next time I'm in town, there is a sign in the window that reads "Under New Management."

Came in here because everything else in the area was closed. Ordered the daily special, the ruben. It was very thickly sliced, nearly unchewable. I took the bread off to see what the deal was with this sandwich and low-and-behold, my corned beef was in a square, about 1/2 inch thick. Ultimately, I left most of the sandwich uneaten and headed out to find better grub. As for the environment - very confusing. It's a dimly lit bakery, the bathroom (though clean) had blood red walls with black sink and toilet. And there were only a few bakery items out for purchase like bread. There wasn't even a case with pastries in or anything.

Went there for breakfast and got a pretty good muffin. Everyone i was with seemed to enjoy there food. The 3 isn't because they did anything wrong, i just wasn't here long enough to let them do anything right.

I eat here almost everyday, and I can say it has always been excellent. I haven't been disappointed once with the food, atmosphere or price. I highly recommend JD's!! I just wish they had longer hours on Saturdays!

They have phenomenal breakfast and a self serve coffee buffet. Love the intimate atmosphere and selection of carry out bakery items as well. I recommend the breakfast burrito.

JD Bakery & Cafe is what looks to be a locally established restaurant and from the looks of the coffee mug that I snapped a photo of is a branch from a family owned farm and/or restaurant in Russellville, KY. I happened upon this place on a Sunday when they were closed while I was out running for exercise. This place is closed on Sunday and Monday but otherwise they are open per the hours posted. I first can say that whenever I was there that if one is seeking a quite place to hang out while reading a morning newspaper or good book while dining then this place is good. It is a nice place to have a casual conversation with others while being able to hear one another without having to feel one has to shout. It is because of the aforementioned that I decided to scope the establishment out and on this account it did not disappoint. I only wish that they had a tad more lighting as the furniture of the place makes the environment seem a bit dark. The ordering process happens by one approaching the counter in the back of the place and is also the place where one pays for one of the many assorted baked items. This place does not have waiters per se so the sit down and/or take out meals are paid for in advance at the counter. I ordered breakfast and just got a basic 2 eggs, 2 sausage, hash browns, and wheat toast along with a coffee and water. They also have other standard breakfast fare but this morning I was going for protein and caffeine on the cheap. After having ordered my food I proceeded to grab myself a seat. The place being sparsely populated this morning with it perhaps being so early I had a choice of where I could sit. The tables along with chairs are in the center of the place and on the outer walls there is aligned to sectional bench style seating. The table and chair that I chose this particular morning was probably not the best but once seated I decided to stay. The seat that I did chose had a view of a picturesque mural painted upon the cornice like ceiling. The bad part about the seat was that while sitting at the table on the sectional bench style seating was either too high or the table too low. There was also this intrusive extension cord at my feet that was connecting the Open sign into a wall plug diagonally across the room about 8 feet away. I kicked the excess of the cord out away from my feet but the cord could still serve its purpose by being hidden and snaked alongside and behind bench I was sitting upon. It was not too long after trying to get adjusted to my seat that I received breakfast order of food. I was indeed surprised when they delivered my food upon a sturdy cardboard like paper plate. Not saying that there was anything wrong with the plate choice of delivery but just saying it wasn't what I was expecting. It was then that I needed utensils to eat the food with but those were located across the restaurant in a central location along with coffee thermos, coffee creamer, condiments, napkins, etc. Remember earlier when it was said this place doesn't have waiters or waitresses? Yup, you guessed it, all those items need to be retrieved by the dining patron. (I assume the establishment is designed in such a style to prevent low overhead costs for the entrepreneur in not paying servers with nothing to do on a slow day which is not necessarily a bad thing). After having got up to retrieve my utensils, which were metal by the way, while trying to avoid tripping over the extension cord at my feet I then began to eat my breakfast. I am almost always never surprised when it comes to dining out and ordering eggs scrambled as their version and my version differ remarkably. The eggs were cooked in a style as if someone was almost in the beginning stages of preparing an omelet in that the eggs were flattened. I went ahead and ate them as I don't like to waste food by having it thrown away but scrambled eggs these were not. The sausage was the best part of the meal in that it appeared to spicy like Italian sausage and it was delicious. The hash browns and the wheat toast were what one would expect. The overall meal was good but nothing to rave and write home about to others. Some suggestions for improvement in the dining atmosphere. Perhaps add a bit more lighting to brighten up the place to detract from the dark furniture and dark walls. Set up the tables by having the utensils, napkins, and some of the condiments already laid out on each table. Hide the extension cord behind the bench.
